Pikes Peak area families in need of holiday gift donations

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — For some kids, Christmas is dependent on donations. The Pikes Peak United Way and Harrison School District 2 are trying to make sure that no child goes without presents this holiday season. However, they still need your help to make that happen.

United Way and District 2 have identified families in need throughout the area with their ‘Adopt-A-Family’ Program, which provides presents for over 200 families. However, this year there are still some families who haven’t been adopted yet.

Both organizations say the need this year is increasing across the board, with a lot of families asking for gift cards to the grocery store to help put food on the table.

If you head to this website, you can learn more about families’ needs and sign up to help them out.

“It’s overwhelming when you get to talk to the families who are coming, who truly would not have been able to provide a Christmas for their children,” said Elizabeth Quevedo with Pikes Peak United Way. “And, you know, there’s so many, like basic needs that are listed on here, shoes and coats and household items, items for work for the parents. So, it really makes you think about what folks are facing.”

Some of the families left to adopt are quite large, so they encourage people to get creative and adopt a family with a group of people.

The final day to adopt one of these families and make some holiday dreams come true is Friday, Dec. 6.
