(PUEBLO, Colo.) — The Pueblo Police Department (PPD) said three vehicles racing led to a crash into a home and an engine catching fire in southern Pueblo.
According to PPD, on Sunday, April 6, just after midnight, police were conducting speed enforcement in the 3200 block of Pueblo Boulevard, near South Prairie Avenue, when they saw three cars racing west.
Shortly after, one of the cars crashed into a home on Elmwood Circle and caused significant damage to the front of the house. Police found two women inside the car, one was identified as 18-year-old Jaiden Maes, who was allegedly in the driver’s seat.
While police waited for fire personnel to arrive, the engine caught fire, and officers worked to remove the people from the car safely, and both were taken to the hospital for evaluation. The passenger had gotten several serious, but not life-threatening injuries, and Maes did not get serious injuries and was taken to the Pueblo County Detention Center.
Maes is facing charges of Vehicular Reckless Assault, Operating an Uninsured Vehicle, Driving Without a Valid License, and Displaying an Expired Number Plate.
“Pueblo Police would like to remind the public of the serious danger of speeding and street racing; not only to the drivers and occupants of the vehicles involved, but also to community members and their property,” wrote PPD.
