(PUEBLO COUNTY, Colo.) — A K9 with the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) helped apprehend four suspects in two separate, unrelated crimes in southern Pueblo County on Monday, Aug. 26.
According to PCSO, around 3:30 Monday afternoon, deputies responded to a suspected trespassing call after a witness reported a suspicious car covered in a tarp on private property near Brian Avenue, about halfway between Pueblo and Colorado City.
By the time deputies arrived, a man had gotten out of the car and was walking east through a field. PCSO identified the man as 29-year-old Bret Seeley. Seeley allegedly refused to follow commands from deputies to get on the ground and show his hands before he ran from deputies.
PCSO said Seeley stopped running when a handler announced he would deploy K9 Zeus, though Seeley continued to refuse commands to show his hands. The deputy used a Tazer, and Seeley was taken into custody on five outstanding warrants, with bonds totaling $70,000.
Later on Monday, in an unrelated crime, deputies responded to a burglary in progress in the 800 block of Highway 165 in Rye. Deputies learned from witnesses that a truck and trailer had pulled up to the property before three people got out and broke into the home.
When deputies arrived, they saw a man coming out of the home carrying several bags, though he went back inside the home when he saw the deputies and K9 Zeus. Once again, deputies announced that they would release K9 Zeus if the suspect did not come out, and the man surrendered without the use of K9 Zeus. The suspect has been identified as 62-year-old Gary Biby.
Deputies and K9 Zeus then searched the property for the other two suspects, and a woman was located hiding under a blanket by K9 Zeus. The woman, identified as 28-year-old Tabitha Brooks, ignored multiple commands from deputies to come out from under the blanket, and K9 Zeus was deployed. Brooks was also taken into custody.
Deputies learned the third suspect, 40-year-old Jake Jones, was on the roof of the home, and after announcing the presence of the K9, Jones surrendered. Some property from inside the home was found inside the truck, and deputies are seeking a search warrant for the trailer.

Jones, Biby, and Brooks were each arrested for second-degree burglary. Brooks was also arrested for criminal impersonation and on six outstanding warrants. All three suspects have been booked into the Pueblo County Jail.
“This was great teamwork by our deputies, K9 Zeus, and the public in reporting, locating, and getting all of these suspects into custody,” said Pueblo County Sheriff David J. Lucero. “I want to thank the individuals who wisely called in when they saw some things that appeared to be suspicious. Their accurate descriptions of the suspects and the suspect vehicles allowed our responding deputies to quickly locate and apprehend all four of these suspects.”
“I also want to give a huge shoutout to K9 Zeus, who proved to be essential in successfully getting them all into custody,” added Sheriff Lucero.
