Pueblo County warns of high fire danger over weekend

(PUEBLO COUNTY, Colo.) — The Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) is warning of strong winds and dry conditions over the weekend of Friday, April 5 to Sunday, April 7, and a Red Flag warning will be in effect for Friday.

According to PCSO, a Red Flag warning will begin at 11 a.m. on Friday and go till 9 p.m. that evening. A Fire Weather Watch will be in effect on Saturday, April 6 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. There will also be a High Wind Watch from 8 a.m. Saturday to noon Sunday.

“High winds are expected on Saturday through Sunday afternoon with gusts as high as 55 mph expected, which could blow down trees and power lines. Areas of blowing dust will make visibility difficult for motorists,” wrote PCSO in a social media post.

PCSO said no burning will be allowed and is asking the community to avoid using equipment and tools that may emit a spark, and dispose of all smoking materials in a safe manner.
