(PUEBLO, Colo.) — The Pueblo Police Department (PPD) said it is investigating a shooting that occurred on Wednesday, May 28, as the fifth homicide in Pueblo in 2025.
According to PPD, on Wednesday, at around 7 a.m., police responded to a report of shots fired and an injured person in the 1000 block of Ruppel Street at the Belmont Manor Apartments near I-25 and Highway 50.
When police arrived, they found a 46-year-old man with a gunshot wound. Police attempted lifesaving efforts, and the victim was taken to the hospital, where he later died. Detectives from the Crimes Against Persons Division arrived and began an investigation. PPD said the shooter and witnesses on the scene were interviewed, and there is no determination of charges at this time.
“A homicide is defined as the killing of one person by another,” wrote PPD. “This classification does not indicate a determination of lawfulness.”
The victim will be identified by the Pueblo County Coroner after appropriate notifications.
