(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The City of Colorado Springs passed the annexation of the land between the City of Fountain and the Fort Carson Army Post to bring a railway and major manufacturing hub to the area. Bringing more jobs to the community while making transports from the army post easier.
“This is another great sort of argument for manufacturing, it is what economists call a primary industry.” Economist Tatiana Bailey testified, “A lot of the dollars that come in is because manufacturing goods go out typically- outside of the region. The dollars that come in are new dollars. They’re now sort of recycled dollars, like most health care dollars, as an example.
While most people in attendance were in agreement that this will be a good change for the city, some voiced their opinion that they were not.
One of those citizens against the annexation commented, “The black footed ferret that roams around here in Colorado. I mean, it’s 3000 plus acres. How do we know for every square inch that there is not a home of a black footed ferret there?”
The vote passed unanimously.
Councilman Dave Donelson commented before the vote, “I remember when I worked as a physician assistant, I ran a men’s health center. A lot of the guys who came in there were white collar workers, attorneys, and others. The ones who weren’t were almost always had manufacturing jobs, and that gave them the health benefits to be able to do things.”
