(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Colorado Representative Jeff Crank opened a new office in Downtown Colorado Springs on Tuesday, Feb. 18, with local leaders in attendance.
The grand opening of the office was attended by Colorado Springs Mayor Yemi Mobolade, El Paso County Sheriff Joseph Roybal, District Attorney Michael Allen, and the Colorado Springs Chamber of Commerce. Crank said he hopes the location will allow him to interact more with the community in order to understand their needs.
In a post to social media on the new office, Crank said “Whether it’s help with a federal agency or wanting to voice your concerns, we’re here to serve you.”
At the grand opening on Tuesday, Crank addressed concerns over the mass firings of federal employees. Right now, 20,000 federal employees in El Paso County alone may be concerned about their job security, amid a wave of pink slips sent by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
Crank assured government workers and constituents that they would remain employed if they are meeting the job expectations. At the same time, he said the administration can bypass Congress and eliminate jobs even though Congress passed laws to allocate money for them.
“We’re spending beyond our means and we’ve got to get that under control,” Crank said. “So, you know, I understand if people are worried about it, I think… while there are some people who’ve gotten notices and things like that, that their job may be in jeopardy. I understand that that’s the prerogative of the executive branch to do that.”
Crank represents Colorado’s 5th Congressional District, which includes Palmer Lake, Monument, Black Forest, Colorado Springs, parts of Peyton, and Fountain. The new office is located on Pikes Peak Avenue east of Wahsatch Avenue.
