Maverick, who just turned three years old, is a Leonberger and according to his owner, was the youngest in his breed to compete at the show. While Maverick scored fourth place in his breed out of 12, he surely took first in people’s hearts.

Mark Barton, General Manager and Partner of Phil Long Ford in Motor City, joined FOX21 Morning News on Feb. 6 to preview the exciting news about Maverick competing at Westminster and also brought along his other dog, Goose, a 13-month-old Leonberger.

“Maverick will get on the plane, we’ll get a couple of days rest, go to Central Park, and run around, and we might win a ribbon,” Barton told FOX21 previously.

During his time at Westminster, Maverick also took a break from the bright lights and stage to prance around the streets of New York City making many friends along the way, including a stop at the Children’s Hospital and fire department.

With so much love and long walks too, Maverick needed a good snooze and he surely got the royal treatment, and maybe, a little pampering, too.

While Maverick didn’t place first at Westminster, this past weekend, he and Goose competed at the Colorado Kennel Club Dog Show and were huge hits. According to Barton, Maverick was crowned ‘Best in Breed,’ and Goose took second. Way to go, pups!
