FOX21 Storm Team Chief Meteorologist Matt Meister spoke with Doug Zurek, Organizer for Riders 4 Children, on Thursday morning, July 17, to learn more about the event and the important cause it supports. Zurek also works for the Ronald McDonald House and handles the nonprofit’s local events and corporate partners.

“We let families stay there [at the Ronald McDonald House], and in the 38 years that we have been there, no family has ever received a bill,” said Zurek. “The families come there, and it’s not a destination, they come there because their kiddo is at the hospital… so we help them with food, a place to stay, [and] other resources, like transportation.”

Zurek said this year, they are hoping to have 150 bikes at the Riders 4 Children event. Those interested in attending can register online until Friday, July 18, at 5 p.m. After that, people can still register at the event on the day of.

“We’ll go on a short ride, and we will stop at the Ronald McDonald House, and we’ll have staff and families there cheering us on,” he said. There will also be live music and food at the event to celebrate.
