(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The spirit of Christmas is in full swing in the Springs as the Salvation Army’s Annual Giving Tree Toy distribution took place on Thursday, Dec. 19.
Salvation Army set to distribute over 5,000 toys and stockings to nearly 1,500 children in Colorado Springs. According to the Salvation Army, it served 500 families in need who registered for the event through Family Services.
Before the collection day, the Salvation Army met with families to learn what their specific needs and wants were before putting the packages together.
“It makes me feel like a good mom,” said Victoria Burchfield. “It makes me feel like I actually accomplished something, whether it was through help or not. I was able to give my son a full and complete Christmas, and it brings tears to my eyes.”
Burchfield told FOX21 News she was getting emotional thinking about how grateful she is for the Salvation Army’s help this Christmas.
