(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Salvation Army announced on Wednesday, Aug. 13, that it is facing significant budget shortcomings that could impact services and programs, and is addressing this problem with a new fundraising campaign.
According to the Salvation Army, an increased demand for its services, a decline in donations, and decreased funding opportunities have left the organization with a $1,000,000 shortfall in its 2025 budget. To hopefully combat this, the Salvation Army is launching a new fundraising and public awareness campaign: Hope Needs Help.
“We’ve never turned away someone in need, and we don’t intend to start now,” said Major Steve Ball, Corps Officer of The Salvation Army Colorado Springs. “But to keep from reducing our key services to the community like food, shelter, and hope for families in crisis, we need the community to step up and help us meet this shortfall.”
The campaign will feature an email, mail, and media rollout, as well as a social media campaign that will spotlight people impacted by the charity’s work. Local businesses are also encouraged to contact the Salvation Army for a donation-matching initiative.
An open house is also scheduled for Sept. 3, 2025, at the Salvation Army’s Family Hope Center at 709 South Sierra Madre Street.
100% of the funds raised will go to support emergency food distribution, homelessness prevention, veteran support, and youth mentorship programs.
Donations can be made securely at HelpColoradoSprings.com or by mailing a check to: The Salvation Army Colorado Springs, 908 Yuma Street, Colorado Springs, CO 80909.
“People know The Salvation Army from our red kettles, but our work happens 365 days a year,” said Major Ball. “We’re asking the community to be our partner, not just during the holidays, but now, when families are depending on us more than ever.”
