(EL PASO COUNTY, Colo.) — On Wednesday, June 11, Academy School District 20 (ASD20) opened its new maintenance facility, which the district said will better serve students.
School leaders said the old maintenance facility was built in 1986. The new facility will improve efficiency, safety, and long-term service for the district’s fleet of more than 160 yellow buses, activity buses, and support vehicles.
The opening ceremony held on Wednesday marked the final major project funded by the 2016 bond initiative, which provided $230 million for improvement projects across the district. ASD20 said $8 million went towards the new bus maintenance facility and the renovation of the old transportation department building.
“To know that the community, the board, the cabinet, and frankly all of Colorado Springs realizes the importance for an upgraded facility to allow us to better serve the students, it’s wonderful to know that we have that support.”
Improvements to the old facility include new LED lighting, extended bay space to repair vehicles, and more storage space.
