(CONEJOS COUNTY, Colo.) — The Conejos County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) said deputies continue to search for a 64-year-old man who was last seen on April 16.
According to CCSO, on April 16 at around 7:45 p.m., Colorado State Patrol got a call from Patrice Guilinger reporting that her husband, 64-year-old Rodney Guilinger, was possibly missing. Patrice Guilinger told law enforcement that Rodney Guilinger dropped her off at work in Fort Garland at around 7:30 a.m. and told her he was going to scout hunting areas between La Jara and the New Mexico border and would return between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m.
Guilinger’s wife said he has high blood pressure, takes medicine, has onset dementia, and has his medication and luggage with him. She also noted Guilinger has experienced blackouts due to his blood pressure in the past.
Deputies tried to contact Guilinger’s phone, but it went directly to voicemail. A Be on the Lookout (BOLO) was issued, and deputies began searching from the New Mexico border northward.
Guilinger’s silver 2021 Dodge Ram was found on April 17 stuck off Forest Service Road 380. Ground searches in the area yielded no signs of Guilinger. Support from other law enforcement agencies was brought in to help in the search, and a nationwide missing persons bulletin was issued.
According to CCSO, between April 19 and May 12, law enforcement from various agencies continued to search for Guilinger despite weather hampering several efforts. A K9 tracked his scent to a pond near a cabin, and multiple searches involving drones, K9s, and aerial searches were made in the area, but nothing was found.
“We are dedicating every available resource and working tirelessly with our partners to locate Rodney Guilinger,” said Conejos County Sheriff Garth Crowther. “We understand the urgency of this situation, and are making every reasonable effort to find him.”
