(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The occupant of a hotel room was arrested after police and fire were called to downtown Colorado Springs about smoke, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD).
CSPD said on Saturday, Feb. 24 at around 5 p.m. police and the Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) were called to a fire alarm at a hotel in the 00 block of South Nevada Avenue near Pikes Peak Avenue in downtown Colorado Springs.

The occupant of the room, identified by CSPD as Mitchell Highsmith, refused to open the door and barricaded himself inside. CSFD forced entry into the room and police detained Highsmith. The fire was quickly mitigated and damage was limited to one room.
Highsmith was arrested and taken to the Criminal Justice Center.
