Suspect named in Cortez officer-involved shooting

(CORTEZ Colo.) — Montezuma County Coroner George W. Deavers has named the suspect in the officer-involved shooting that happened on Wednesday, Nov. 29, resulting in the death of Sgt. Michael Moran of the Cortez Police Department.

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) says 44-year-old Jason Campbell of Ogden, Utah was named the suspect in the incident.

According to CBI, there is no one in custody connected to this incident at this time. A person who was inside the suspect’s vehicle at the time of the incident has been interviewed and released.

CBI says investigators continue to conduct interviews and are working to determine the elements and timeline of the incident.
