Suspect of starting Highland Lakes fire arrested

(TELLER COUNTY, Colo.) — The Teller County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) said it arrested a woman suspected of setting fire to her home which spread into the Highland Lakes fire.

According to TCSO, Lacey Tillitt was arrested for a Class 2, 4th Degree Arson felony. Tillitt was accused of knowingly setting fire to her home in Oct. 2024 which spread and became the Highland Lakes Fire.

According to TCSO, the fire threatened over 700 homes and caused evacuations of the Highland Lakes area and surrounding neighborhoods for about three days. It involved about 15 firefighting and medical agencies along with firefighting aircraft. The Highland Lakes Fire burned about 166 acres.

TCSO said Tillitt is being held on a $50,000 bond.
