Teller County Sheriff’s Office warning about scam calls

(TELLER COUNTY, Colo) — The Teller County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) said it has recently been made aware that some living in the county have been getting calls about a “legal matter” that requires payment over the phone.

People living in Teller County have allegedly been getting phone calls claiming to be from the sheriff’s office saying the recipient needs to take care of an “urgent legal matter” which could be taken care of with a payment over the phone. TCSO said the callers are identifying themselves as Sergeant Nick Olmstead or Sergeant John Taylor.

According to TCSO, if you get a call from a law enforcement agency requesting money over the phone, do not make the payment and report the incident to the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center at www.ic3.gov.

TCSO said if you feel the call might be legitimate, tell the representative that you will call them back at their agency’s official phone number. Get the representative’s position and name so you can ask for them when you call. Do not let them pressure you to make the payment immediately.

If you made a payment to a scammer on one of these calls or feel your personal information has been compromised, call TCSO at (719) 687-9652 and ask to speak with a deputy.
