(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Starting Monday, Feb. 24, temporary closures on south and northbound Academy Boulevard will begin for welding operations on the bridge structure on Highway 85/87.
From Monday to Wednesday, Feb. 26, there will be a full closure of northbound South Academy Boulevard from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Drivers can follow the detour in place:
Northbound South Academy Boulevard traffic will exit onto US Highway 85/87, travel to North Bradley Road, and travel north to re-enter South Academy Boulevard.
Starting Friday, Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. through Wednesday, March 3 at 4:30 a.m. there will be a temporary full closure of southbound South Academy Boulevard.
Southbound South Academy Boulevard traffic will exit onto Bradley Road, travel east to Main Street, travel south to US Highway 85/87, and travel north to re-enter South Academy Boulevard.
All lanes of Bradley Road under South Academy Boulevard will be shifted to the south to allow crews to continue work on slope paving for the bridge.
A shift east and westbound South Academy Boulevard between I-25 and Fountain Creek will allow crews to work on the outside lanes, install drainage pipes, and prepare to construct a noise barrier. The alignment will be in place until August 2025.
The improvements on South Academy Boulevard are expected to be completed by early 2026.
