(COLORADO) — Parent mental health has reached the level of a national crisis, according to Children’s Hospital Colorado, and on Wednesday, Feb. 26, it will be addressing the topic during its first youth mental health town hall of 2025.
“Last year, the U.S. Surgeon General reported 48% of parents say that most days, their stress is completely overwhelming,” according to the press release. “Children’s Hospital Colorado spends a lot of time talking about youth mental health, but we also know parental and caregiver health is important and dramatically impacts our kids.”
After launching a mental health state of emergency in 2021, Children’s Hospital Colorado has been hosting mental health town halls for families, caregivers, and teachers—just to name a few.
Wednesday’s online town hall will address the following topics:
Why parenting is hard, how stress impacts parents’ wellbeing, and tips for taking care of ourselves.
Importance of parent distress tolerance and strategies to help with in-the-moment parenting stress.
How to initiate brave, honest conversations about mental health, suicidality, anxiety, and stress management with children.
How to choose coping strategies that fit into daily life and are based on individual values.
Wednesday’s town hall will begin at 6 p.m. and families that are interested in attending the online meeting should register for the event here.
“These town halls are free and open to the public – and connect families directly with the clinical experts on the frontlines of the mental health crisis experienced by kids and youth, which often worsens during April and May, when youth are reaching the end of their school years,” according to Children’s Hospital Colorado.
