(COLORADO SPRINGS) — It’s been over a month since heavy rain washed out a large portion of road inside North Cheyenne Cañon Park. The stretch of road has been closed since, but that could change soon.
The city hopes to have the road back open by July 18. Of course, this is just an estimate, which could change based on the weather.
The city says the amount of water in the area and the narrow space have made it challenging. However, crews are focused on creating more long-term stability, so this doesn’t happen again. In the meantime, they ask for continued patience from the community.
“It’s really been going quickly, but from people’s perspective, particularly this time of year when they want to get out, enjoy the beautiful canyon. We know it seemed like it’s taken a while, but we’re just taking the methodical steps to put the repairs in place and get it open,” said Gayle Sturdivant, the Deputy Public Works Director and City Engineer for Colorado Springs.
Although trails in the park are still open, there are some clearly marked closures. The city asks that you respect the signage to keep yourself and others safe.
