Theatreworks presents “Sense & Sensibility” at Ent Center

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Jane Austen lovers can treat themselves to a night in the Regency era as Theatreworks presents a new production of Sense & Sensibility through Sunday, Dec. 22 at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (UCCS) Ent Center for the Arts.

The adaptation is a family-friendly take on the classic novel that follows the trials and tribulations of the Dashwood sisters, Elinor and Marianne, as they navigate the treacherous social waters of love, family, and duty in 1800s England.

The adaptation combines wit and warmth with modern energy and promises an evening of humor, romance, and the sharp social commentary that Austen fans have come to love. The production takes advantage of historic Regency-style costumes while incorporating a modern color palette to enhance the storytelling.

“This story not only foresees the impact of living under the constant scrutiny of social pressures and gossip but also centers on the profound bond between the sisters, Elinor and Marianne,” said Caitlin Lowans, Artistic Director of Theatreworks. “Through the trials of English high society, they come to realize their deep need for and love for each other.”

Lowans has led Theatreworks for the past six years, and this will be their final directorial work before taking over the role of Artistic Director at Ten Thousand Things Theater in Minneapolis.
