DENVER (KDVR) — Winds have been whipping across Colorado, and some areas recorded gusts over 80 mph since Monday.
It’s been breezy across Colorado, especially in the past few days when high wind warnings were in effect Monday through Wednesday. The high winds brought increased fire danger, small vegetation fires and road closures.
In Denver, the wind gusts, which are quick bursts of wind rather than the average speed, have reached as high as 56 mph, but in other areas, the wind was even stronger.

The windiest Colorado locations recorded high gusts at the start of the week. Boulder recorded a top speed of 84 mph on Monday morning, meanwhile, Rocky Flats recorded a strong gust on Tuesday afternoon. In Denver, winds hit 56 mph early Wednesday morning and Springfield also recorded strong gusts Wednesday morning.
While conditions have remained consistently windy through the start of the week, Pinpoint Weather Meteorologist Travis Michels said the wind warnings will end at noon, and the wind will slowly begin to die down Wednesday afternoon and into the sunset hours.
Michels said the Denver metro shouldn’t be windy heading into Thursday, although the Eastern Plains will still see strong winds through the end of the week.
