Victim in fatal hit and run involving motorcycle identified

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The victim of a fatal hit-and-run crash that happened on Wednesday, March 12 has been identified by the El Paso County Coroner as 31-year-old Shane Golden.

According to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) on March 12 at 8:15 p.m., officers were called to the intersection of North Academy Boulevard and Rebecca Lane south of North Carefree Circle about a crash involving a motorcycle and truck. When police arrived they found the motorcyclist, Golden, dead on scene and the driver of the truck had left.

The driver of the truck was later identified as 22-year-old David Medina, Medina was arrested for charges of Driving Under the Influence and Hit & Run Involving Death. Police believe both speed and alcohol are factors in the crash, but police are still investigating.

Golden is the fourth traffic fatality in Colorado Springs in 2025. By this time in 2024, there were 15 traffic fatalities.
