(COLORADO) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) arrested three people, including a minor and their mother, after obstructing a tow driver.
On Monday, June 30, a disturbance was reported in the 2000 block of Southgate Road, near South Nevada Avenue. A tow driver was attempting to tow a car, but multiple people were obstructing the tow driver and began beating on the tow truck.
According to CSPD, the complex manager was on scene, directing the removal of the vehicle when a driver entered the car and backed out, striking and injuring management, then leaving the scene.
When police arrived, those who had prevented the tow began to walk away. One of the suspects, a minor, was pointed out, and officers were able to contact them. Initially, the minor complied with officers but then became combative and attempted to avoid arrest. CSPD said the minor even kicked a vehicle and caused damage to it.
Before officers were able to get the minor inside the patrol car, the mother of the minor attacked police, punching one of the officers several times while others swarmed police.
At that point, police requested emergency assistance, and multiple other officers responded. Two more individuals were also arrested.
The minor was arrested for misdemeanor charges and released to a parent. The mother, identified as Mariangela Martonez, was booked into the Criminal Justice Center (CJC) for assault on an officer, and the person who had driven away, Jose Balza Pacheco, turned himself in at the police station and was also booked into the CJC.
CSPD said officers were injured but were able to remain on duty. Anyone who has a video of the incident that was not collected by officers is asked to contact the police.
