Traffic stop results in drug seizure and arrests

(CAÑON CITY, Colo.) — The Cañon City Police Department (CCPD) said two people were arrested during a traffic stop where officers allegedly saw drugs in plain sight.

According to CCPD, on Thursday, Sept. 4, CCPD, assisting Colorado Department of Corrections Parole Officers on a traffic stop, saw narcotics in plain view and arrested 38-year-old Vanessa Nicole Budd and 40-year-old George Bumgarner.

CCPD said a search of the vehicle police found 814.787 grams or about 1.8 pounds of methamphetamine, 95.091 grams of fentanyl or about 800 pills, and 12.772 grams of liquid methamphetamine/fentanyl mixture, a handgun, along with a large amount of US currency, a small scale, and a large amount of plastic bags were found on one of the occupants. CCPD said the street value of the narcotics seized is believed to be worth about $17,000.

Budd and Bumgarner were arrested and are both facing a variety of drug charges.
