(PUEBLO, Colo.) — A severe thunderstorm rolled through Pueblo on Tuesday, Aug. 13, knocking down trees and powerlines and ripping the roof off a building on the city’s north side.

The National Weather Service (NWS) reported wind damage from a severe thunderstorm shortly after 3 p.m. on Tuesday. Trees were reportedly down in Mineral Palace Park, and a roof was torn from a strip mall in the 3300 block of North Elizabeth Street.

FOX21’s crew on the scene reports that the businesses inside the strip mall are closed due to the storm damage.

The Mineral Palace neighborhood was also hit hard by the storm, with fallen trees blocking roads and damaging yards and fences. Several neighbors could be seen with chainsaws and tools helping clear the trees from the roads while the City of Pueblo mobilizes its Public Works Department.

The City of Pueblo said in an alert that it was aware of the storm damage and was already working on clearing fallen limbs and trees as quickly as possible.

“Please be patient as [the Public Works Department] work their way across the city,” said the city. “They will be addressing damages in parks, street ways, and other city-owned property.”

The City asked neighbors to let them know if they see damages in these areas by contacting Pueblo Public Works at (719) 553-2295. If you see a downed power line, do not go near it, and instead report it immediately to Black Hills Energy at (888) 890-5554.
