Trial for man allegedly found with severed hand begins in Pueblo

(PUEBLO, Colo.) — The trial of 27-year-old Solomon Martinez, a man who was allegedly found with a severed hand in his pocket began on Monday, Feb. 24 in Pueblo County Court.

According to court documents Martinez’s arrest came after a friend called police on the afternoon of Jan. 10, 2024, and reported witnessing him dragging a body down to Fountain Creek two days before. Police later recovered the woman’s body along Fountain Creek south of West 11th Street.

When Martinez was arrested, police reported finding a severed hand in his pocket. While in custody, Martinez reportedly stated out loud, “I had a hand in my jacket for two days.”

At the time of his arrest, Martinez was working as a security guard in Pueblo, and according to the company’s owner, Martinez was not a long-time employee and had only worked for the company for a total of 52 hours.

Martinez has pled not guilty to three charges including; First-Degree Murder After Deliberation, Tampering with a Deceased Human Body, and Abuse of Corpse.
