(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo (CMZoo) is competing to be named best zoo in the country. It’s part of USA Today’s 10-Best Readers’ Choice Awards, which you can vote on once a day.
At the time this article was written, the Colorado Springs’ mountain zoo was in first place. However, zoo staff says the standings keep fluctuating. In the same USA Today competition, you can also vote CMZoo for Best Zoo Membership and Best Zoo Exhibit.
One of the coolest things about CMZoo is how up-close and personal you can get with their animals. Whether you find a wandering Wallaby, or schedule a close encounter, the zoo and its residents are very happy to greet their visitors.
The zoo said it’s one of only a handful of zoos to ever receive a completely clean inspection. If you don’t want to take their word for it, you can sign up for a unique experience to check it out yourself.
“I brought my husband to do the tiger encounter, with Chewy the tiger. He has been talking about it daily ever since. It’s really fun to get that close,” said Rachel Wright, the zoo’s Public Relations and Social Media Manager. “I’ve worked here for a long time, and it still is just so inspiring to be that close. They’re just impressive.”
You can vote on each category daily. Voting runs through March 10 at 10 a.m.
