Two ejected from back of pickup truck in fatal crash

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — A crash on the overpass of South Circle Drive over Hancock Avenue killed one person and caused serious injury to another after two passengers were ejected from the back of a pickup truck in the early morning hours of Saturday, July 5, according to police.

The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) reported that around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, officers responded to the overpass and found that a pickup truck had been driving southbound on Circle with two passengers riding in the back, when another vehicle hit the pickup.

According to CSPD, the two passengers were thrown from the back of the pickup truck. One received serious injuries and was taken to the hospital. The other died while receiving medical intervention on the scene.

CSPD reported that one driver was arrested for DUI. Impairment and speed are suspected as factors in the incident.

The Major Crash Team is investigating the incident, and anyone with information about the incident or with dash cam footage is asked to call CSPD at (719) 444-7000.
