Two Suspects arrested in connection to Vehicle Break-Ins on Red Baron Drive

(EL PASO COUNTY, Colo.) — The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO) arrested two people allegedly connected to a series of vehicle break-ins near Milton Proby Parkway and South Powers Boulevard.

According to EPSO, on Tuesday, Sept. 30, at around 1:45 a.m., deputies got a call about two people attempting to break into a vehicle in the 3000 block of Red Baron Drive in unincorporated El Paso County.

Deputies responded and coordinated a containment plan, entering the neighborhood from multiple access points to prevent the suspects from escaping. While canvassing the area, deputies found two women wearing black hoodies who matched the description provided by the caller. The suspects were later identified as 43-year-old Melissa Estrada and 38-year-old Jessica Wyant.

EPSO said Wyant gave deputies a false name initially and admitted to attempting to open a vehicle door, allegedly believing it to be the home of a former partner. During the time of the incident, EPSO said Wyant was on parole for previous identity theft charges.

According to EPSO, home surveillance footage from the neighborhood showed two individuals wearing clothing consistent with Estrada and Wyant’s attire attempting to enter multiple vehicles. Further investigation allegedly linked both suspects to four vehicle break-ins in the area.

Estrada was served and released on charges of Conspiracy to Commit Attempted Criminal Trespass of an Automobile. Wyant was arrested and booked into the El Paso County Jail on charges of Criminal Impersonation and Attempted Criminal Trespass of an Automobile. She was currently held on a $1,000 bond.

“This case is a perfect example of how community vigilance and swift response from deputies work hand in hand to keep our neighborhoods safe,” said El Paso County Sheriff Joseph Roybal. “I am grateful to the citizen who reported suspicious activity and proud of the coordinated efforts of our deputies, which resulted in the arrest of two suspects before further crimes could occur. Together, we can reduce victims and protect the quality of life in the Pikes Peak region.”
