DENVER (KDVR) — FBI Denver special agents arrested a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army on Wednesday night on charges related to cocaine distribution.
Juan Gabriel Orona-Rodriguez, a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army, faces federal charges. On Thursday morning, FBI Denver posted on X about the arrest, saying it was “related to distributing cocaine.”
The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration Rocky Mountain Field Division, the Department of the Army Criminal Investigation Division and officials at Fort Carson helped with the investigation and the arrest.
FOX31 asked FBI Denver if this was related to the Colorado Springs nightclub operation that arrested over 100 people.
“Since this is an open case in federal court, additional information will be released by the U.S. Attorney’s Office or the court at the appropriate time,” a spokesperson for FBI Denver said.
Both the Department of the Army Criminal Investigation Division and the DEA Rocky Mountain Field Division separately told FOX31 that they are aware of the situation and are conducting a joint investigation with the FBI. The FBI is leading an ongoing investigation and more information can’t be provided at this time.
Many details about the investigation, including the base Orona-Rodriguez belonged to and where the arrest took place, haven’t been released.
FOX31 reached out to Fort Carson for a statement and is awaiting a response.
FOX31 is working on gathering more information.
