Victim in overnight shooting downtown identified

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The victim in the shooting in downtown Colorado Springs has been identified as 44-year-old Dieter Gayfield, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSFD).

CSPD said on Wednesday, Aug. 7 at around 2:15 a.m. police got a call for service in the 100 block of East Boulder Street off North Nevada Avenue. When police arrived they found Gayfield dead on the scene with at least one gunshot wound.

Police said CSPD’s homicide unit responded to the scene and it is an active investigation anyone who was witness to or has information about the incident is asked to contact CSPD at (719) 444-7000.

According to CSPD, this was the 25th homicide in Colorado Springs, at this time last year there were 18 homicides.
