Vigil held to honor Palestinian victims of war

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — A vigil for Palestine was held Saturday, Mar. 23, 2024, at Grant Park near Academy and Austin Bluffs Parkway in Colorado Springs. Over 40 people attended the vigil to “honor the martyrs of a free Palestine”—the 30,000 men, women, and children who have been killed during the war in Gaza.

Those in attendance shared speeches, poetry, prayers, and stories of the personal experiences of their families in Palestine. The Colorado Springs People’s Coalition (CSPC) hosted the vigil in cooperation with the Palestinian-American community in the Springs. Their stated goal was to hold the vigil “respectfully.”

“You’re not going to get anywhere by arguing with somebody,” said Breanna Boyncon, of CSPC. “Somebody believes in what they believe in. You believe in what you believe in. And so when you meet at that human level, when you say, I see you, you see me, that opens the door to finding a middle ground.”

CSPC is working on getting a cease-fire resolution passed through the Colorado Springs City Council and is adding names to a petition in the hope of gaining state and national support for the resolution.
