Volunteer at Keep It Clean COS event along Greenway Trail

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs community is invited to volunteer at a Keep It Clean COS cleanup event on Saturday, Aug. 23, from 9 a.m. to noon along the Pikes Peak Greenway Trail between Monument Valley and America the Beautiful parks.

Keep It Clean COS is a citywide effort to remove trash from medians, streets, and other public rights of way. So far this year, thanks to the Keep It Clean COS initiative, 7,890,000 square feet of medians have been cleaned, and since 2023, more than 77,950 labor hours have been logged for trash cleanup.

“So one of the main things that people talk about, why they want to live in Colorado Springs, is the natural scenery and beautiful views,” said Thomas Thompson, Advisor to the Mayor. “And we want to make sure that our city matches that scenery. And so the mayor has it as a priority to keep this city clean.”

Volunteers are encouraged to bring water and to wear protective clothing such as pants and closed-toed shoes. All other supplies, including pickers, gloves, and trash bags, will be provided.

Participants should meet at the east lawn of Monument Valley Park. Parking is available at Monument Valley Park as well as along Mesa Road.

Trails and Open Space Coalition (TOSC) is sponsoring the cleanup event, along with Cumulus Media, Phil Long Dealerships, and Earthwise Waste Solutions. For more information, click on the link above.
