(U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo.) — The West Monument Creek Fire burning on the south end of the U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA) is 90% contained as of noon on Wednesday, Feb. 28, according to an update from the Academy.
USAFA said Academy firefighters assigned to the 10th Civil Engineer Squadron continue to address remaining areas of concern, and the possible return to Red Flag conditions beginning Friday and continuing through the weekend merit continued watchfulness over the area.
The Academy has reopened to the public, however, the Falcon Trail remains closed until further notice. The public is reminded to stay away from the fire area and avoid interfering with the ongoing response. Some road closures remain in effect, and travelers in the area should follow directions from security forces.
