(PUEBLO, Colo.) — The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has identified the victims involved in the double homicide from early morning Friday, June 21.
Dustyn Courtney, 29, and 20-year-old Trevion Lucas, both from Pueblo, were shot to death near Sailboard Beach after midnight by an unidentified suspect.
According to the CBI, it appears the unknown man and Courtney got into an argument and a physical fight that resulted in the suspect pulling out a handgun and shooting Courtney.
The CBI said that it does not appear Lucas was a part of the original dispute and it is still being investigated as to why he was shot.
Witnesses say the suspect fled the park and remains on the run. The incident occurred on the north side of the lake, not far from the dam, where a group was fishing from the shore.
Autopsies for both victims will take place on Tuesday, June 25. The Colorado Parks and Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office is assisting the CBI who has taken over as lead agency in the case.
Currently, the CBI is conducting witness interviews in hopes of identifying a suspect.
Sailboard Beach reopened on Saturday afternoon, June 22. The rest of the park, campgrounds, and marina remained open.
