Colorado Springs foodies unite for 719 Battle of the Food Trucks

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The tastiest throwdown this side of the Mississippi is back. The 719 Battle of the Food Trucks returns Sunday, June 1, to the Meanwhile Block at 425 S. Sierra Madre Street in downtown Colorado Springs. Doors open at 11 a.m. for VIP and at 11:30 a.m. for general admission.

Holly Hand, Event Organizer, and Joe Lewis, CEO of Angels of America’s Fallen, joined FOX21 Morning News on Friday, May 23, to talk about the event and what participants can expect.

Admission includes 11 samples of your choice, and more than 40 food trucks are signed up to participate. “With that, you’ll also get a couple votes for people’s choice,” said Hand. “We’ll have first, second, and third from the judges and then a people’s choice from the public.” The judges include a panel of local foodies and celebrities, including Loving Living Local cohost Justin Antweil.

A portion of ticket proceeds benefit Angels of America’s Fallen which supports children who have lost their military or first reponder parent by getting them into healthy activities like sports, music and arts. “This money helps us continue our mission,” said Lewis. “Without the funds we wouldn’t be able to engage the kids in these healthy activities.”

The event runs from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will feature live music by Martini Shot and the Sofa Killers. Tickets are available online now or at the door for $5 more.
