(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Comfort & Joy Cat Cafe is now open and offering cat cuddles to customers, along with smoothies and snacks. The one-hour sessions can also offer guests a chance to get to know a friendly feline who needs a loving home.
The cafe, located at 615 South Nevada Avenue, was a passion project for owners Sharon Mullaly and Carol Guinta, both lifelong cat lovers. Their mission is to find good homes for as many cats as possible, provide stress relief through cat interactions to as many humans as possible, serve tasty and healthy food, and provide a safe and comfortable atmosphere for cats and humans at the cafe.
The cafe partners with Teller County Regional Animal Shelter to house eight in-house kitties as they wait for their forever homes. All cats are available for adoption, and staying at the cafe allows them to socialize with people and other cats while taking stress off the shelter.
One-hour sessions with the cats can be booked online, with adults ages 18 to 54 costing $15, seniors 50 and older costing $12, and children and students age eight to 17 costing $10. Fees cover the cost of keeping a roof over the cats’ heads, as well as the supplies necessary to keep them safe, warm, and happy, in addition to the overhead for running the cafe.
In addition to time in the cat room, guests can enjoy a variety of smoothie flavors and snacks, such as avocado toast, waffles, and nachos from the cafe. The cafe is open Wednesdays through Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays and Mondays, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and is closed on Tuesdays.
