(COLORADO) — The Colorado State Patrol (CSP), alongside local partner agencies, held sobriety checkpoints over the weekend of Aug. 15 through 17 on Highway 119 in Gilpin County and Highway 16 in El Paso County.
Over 760 drivers were met at the Gilpin County stop, with 28 roadside stops, and six DUI arrests. CSP also reported that one impaired driver was arrested near the checkpoint after a traffic stop.
In El Paso County, CSP and the Fountain Police Department stopped 537 drivers, with an additional 20 roadside stops performed, resulting in seven DUI arrests. According to the CSP, there were no crashes near either DUI checkpoint during their surveillance.
CSP will hold a sobriety checkpoint on Friday, Aug. 22, in Ouray County, on Highway 550 near Ridgeway, and on Saturday, Aug. 23, in Archuleta County on Highway 150.
“The Colorado State Patrol reminds all drivers that impaired driving includes being under the influence of alcohol, marijuana, prescription medications, or any other substance that affects one’s ability to operate a vehicle safely,” the CSP said in an official report of the checkpoints.
