CSPD asking for the public’s help identifying a John Doe

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) and El Paso County Coroner’s Office are seeking the community’s help in identifying a body found near I-25 and Bijou on Oct. 13, 2024.

According to CSPD, on Oct. 13 at around 6 p.m., officers were called to the area of Bijou Street and I-25 for a reported body that was in a state of decomposition. The coroner’s office responded and took possession of the body. CSPD said it is not investigating the death as a homicide.

The coroner’s office completed a forensic examination and believes the person was a man of African descent, estimated to be between 37 and 73 years old, most likely around 54, between 5’5″ and 6′ tall.

The person likely had Degenerative Idiopathic Skeletal Hyperostosis (DISH) and may have suffered back pain, stiffness, or may have been asymptomatic. CSPD said DISH is associated with gout, high cholesterol, or diabetes.
