Suspect killed in Pueblo officer-involved shooting identified

(PUEBLO, Colo.) — The Pueblo County Coroner said the man killed in an officer-involved shooting on Tuesday, July 8, has been identified as 54-year-old John Michael Jesse.

Officers with the Pueblo Police Department (PPD) originally responded to a domestic disturbance on Glen Royal Drive near Pueblo Boulevard and West Northern Avenue on Tuesday. PPD said officers were responding to a call that a man was threatening his family with a gun. When police arrived, they saw the man, later identified as Jesse, with a gun and ordered him to drop the weapon.

According to PPD, Jesse failed to comply with orders and raised the gun towards officers, at which time an officer fired a shot and hit Jesse. Jesse was declared dead at the scene.

On Friday, July 11, the Pueblo County Coroner identified Jesse as the man who died during the incident. The coroner said the investigation continues, and the next of kin has been notified.
