CSPD: Man found slumped over wheel on unrelated call

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — A large amount of fentanyl was found in the car of a man found slumped over the steering wheel by Colorado Springs Police officers on Thursday, June 19.

According to CSPD, around 2:45 p.m. on Thursday, June 19, police apprehended a shoplifting suspect running from police in the 3100 block of North Powers Boulevard near South Carefree Circle. When police returned after catching the shoplifting suspect, they found a driver slumped over the wheel of his vehicle.

When police tried to contact the driver, he drove away from the officers. One of the driver’s tires was deflated by police deploying a “tire deflation device.” The driver was later contacted in the 2500 block of Shalimar Drive. Police set up containment, and with the help of tactical, K9, and drone units, police were able to find the driver hiding behind a bush.

The driver was taken into custody without incident. CSPD searched the driver’s car and allegedly found a large amount of pills suspected to be fentanyl, drug paraphernalia, and a loaded handgun.
