CSPD: Man threatened arson after pouring gas in home

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) reported that officers responded to a domestic disturbance in which a man sent his wife a video of him pouring gasoline in the living room and threatening to burn down the house on Saturday evening, June 14.

According to CSPD, the call came in around 5:30 p.m., indicating that after the victim received the video, she arrived at the home she shared with her husband in the 7700 block of Orange Sunset Drive, near Stetson Hills Boulevard and Peterson Road, and saw him standing at the window with a lighter. She left the area and called the police.

CSPD stated that while the victim was speaking to the officers, she received a picture via text from the suspect, identified as Carlos Garcia-Rivera, showing him sitting in his truck with a handgun in his lap.

CSPD reported that officers responded to the scene and ordered Garcia-Rivera to come out of the home. Patrol, K9, and the CSPD Drone Unit cooperated to bring Garcia-Rivera into custody without incident.

The Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) later inspected the home and determined that it had been rendered uninhabitable by the amount of fuel that had been poured into the home. CSFD crews disconnected utilities to prevent any combustion.

Garcia-Rivera was booked into the Criminal Justice Center for charges related to Arson and Criminal Mischief.
