(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) officers responded to a call from someone who witnessed a burglary of a business near East Platte Avenue and North Murray Boulevard on Sunday, Feb.2, and during the encounter, the suspect picked up broken glass to use as a weapon, according to CSPD.
CSPD reported that around 7:15 a.m., officers responded to the scene at the 400 block of Murray, where they found a man, later identified as 51-year-old Adrian Hickey inside a business destroying property. At one point he armed himself with a shard of broken glass.
After about 45 minutes of negotiating with Hickey, police were able to coax him out of the building and took him into custody, said CSPD. Hickey was arrested and charged with burglary and criminal mischief.
