EPSO: Prolific criminal arrested with multiple fake IDs

(EL PASO COUNTY, Colo.) — The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO) reported that on Thursday, Jan. 30, deputies responded to a call reporting someone breaking into vehicles in the Security/Widefield area, leading to the arrest of a prolific criminal who was carrying a Mexican driver’s license and what was determined to be multiple fake IDs and immigration documents.

According to EPSO, deputies arrived at the scene in the 5000 block of Preminger Drive, near Bradley Road and Grinnell Boulevard, where they quickly found the suspect’s vehicle with two people sitting inside. After a brief chase, the suspects turned onto a dead-end road on Gossamer Street, got out, and ran in opposite directions.

EPSO stated that deputies deployed a drone to track the suspects and located one of them as he ran toward Grinnell and the Fountain Valley School. The drone operator tracked him until weather conditions forced the drone pursuit to stop. Deputies were later able to track down the suspect on the Fountain Valley School property and arrest him.

The suspect was identified as 41-year-old Jose Daniel Paramo Guerro based on a Mexican driver’s license. Paramo Guerro was carrying multiple personal identification documents, including immigration documents. Because of his criminal activity, EPSO confirmed his identity with the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and determined that the documents were fake and associated with other people.

The vehicle that Paramo Guerro and the other suspect had been using at the time they were located was a Ford F-150 that had been reported stolen from the Colorado Springs area in November 2024, according to EPSO.

When searching the vehicle, deputies reportedly found a stolen firearm that was also reported stolen in November, as well as 1.5 grams of heroin, a large quantity of marijuana, and items consistent with narcotics distribution. Deputies also found what appeared to be several stolen retail items.

Paramo Guerro was booked into the El Paso County Jail on the following charges:

Motor Vehicle Theft

Criminal Trespass (Auto)

Forgery

Theft

Special Offender

Vehicular Eluding

Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance

Possession of Drug Paraphenalia

He is being held on a $50,000 bond.

This case is a stark reminder of the daily dangers my deputies face in the mission to keep our community safe. Thanks to their quick response, teamwork, and use of technology, a dangerous criminal is now off our streets. This individual has repeatedly exploited false identities to evade accountability and justice. He is a convicted felon with a history of using fraudulent identities in the commission of violent crimes. My office remains committed to holding offenders accountable and ensuring the safety and security of our citizens.

El Paso County Sheriff Joseph Roybal
