(MANITOU SPRINGS, Colo.) — Those who found themselves wondering what to do with that one fruitcake they’d been avoiding since the holidays, had the chance to toss it at the 30th Annual Great Fruitcake Toss in Manitou Springs on Saturday, Feb. 1.
This quirky competition gave hundreds of people the perfect way to let out those post-Christmas-season frustrations and support a good cause.
Participants gathered to hurl fruitcakes as far as they could, showing off their tossing skills in categories like distance, accuracy, and even some wacky games. And for those who weren’t quite ready to part with their fruitcakes, or were just curious about the infamous treat, Mr. Fruitcake was present handing out free samples for everyone to try.
“So this was an event that was really put on by the community,” said Mr. Fruitcake. “And every year the folks from Manitou Springs come out and have a great time. And all of the folks who come into town, they get to experience a little bit of Manitou Springs.”
Donations benefited the Manitou Springs community food pantry. The fruitcakes themselves were donated to Sun Mountain and Smoke-Brush Farm to feed animals.
