Fugitive wanted for child sex assault arrested in Manitou

(MANITOU SPRINGS, Colo.) — A fugitive wanted out of Texas for sexual assault on a child was arrested on Monday, Aug. 11 in Manitou Springs.

According to the City of Manitou Springs, officers received a tip about a wanted person believed to be living in Manitou Springs. Through an investigation, the Manitou Springs Police Department (MSPD) determined the suspect had been using an alias to obtain employment at a local business.

The suspect, identified as Mitchell Thomas Harris, was wanted out of Randall County, Texas on charges of sexual assault on a child and had been evading law enforcement for around four years.

Harris, known to use the names “Billy” and “Billy the Kid,” was taken into custody without incident outside of his home in the downtown area, thanks in part to collaboration between local law enforcement and area businesses.

“This successful arrest reflects the dedication and diligence of the Manitou Springs Police Department in safeguarding the community and maintaining strong partnerships with local businesses and other law enforcement agencies,” the City said.

Harris remains in custody pending extradition to Texas.
