(COLORADO SPRINGS) — You might have noticed Hispanic Heritage Month banners along Pikes Peak Ave. in downtown Colorado Springs. Located between Cascade and Wahsatch Avenues, the banners come with a quick local history lesson, in the form of a QR code.
The banners highlight local Hispanic historical figures like Paula “Mama” Vallejo, Tomasita Ortega, and Victor Ornelas Sr. to name a few.
Vallejo, the founder of Vallejo’s Family Restaurant, has an exhibit at the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum. Her restaurant was located at 111 S Corona Street and family-owned and operated for 60 years until its closure in 2022.
Tune in to FOX21 News at 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 3rd, for an in-depth look at Colorado Springs’ local Hispanic history.
