(EL PASO COUNTY, Colo.) — The El Paso County Coroner has identified a 37-year-old man who died at the El Paso County Jail on Friday morning, Aug. 15.
According to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO), just before 4:30 a.m. on Friday, the inmate was found unresponsive in his bunk bed when deputies and medical staff responded and began lifesaving measures prior to the arrival of the Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) and American Medical Response (AMR).
Just before 5 a.m., the man was pronounced dead by CSFD and AMR.
On Wednesday, Aug. 20, the inmate was identified as 37-year-old Dequan Ward.
“Our Office extends our condolences to Mr. Ward’s family and friends during this difficult time,” EPSO said in a statement.
