Large police presence in Pueblo for barricaded suspect

(PUEBLO, Colo.) — The Pueblo Police Department (PPD) provided an update to FOX21 News on the scene, and said the police presence is in response to a reported shooting and barricaded suspect.

According to PPD, around 1:15 p.m., a call was received about a person actively shooting in the area of South Drive and Valley Drive. Officers responded to the scene, and when they tried to contact a man, the man barricaded himself inside a home in the area.

PPD said the SWAT team is on scene and law enforcement are actively trying to contact the man. Valley Drive, South Drive, and Baltimore Avenue are all blocked, and PPD said officers are directing traffic for those closures, so drivers are urged to plan alternate routes for the time being.

One person has been taken into custody for questioning, though their connection to the shooting is unknown. PPD said it is currently unaware of any injuries.

ORIGINAL STORY: Heavy police presence on north side of Pueblo

There is a heavy police presence on the northwest side of Pueblo, and the Pueblo Police Department (PPD) is asking the community to avoid the area.

According to PPD, the police presence is near the intersection of South Drive and Valley Drive, north of Highway 50 and Baltimore Avenue.

PPD did not specify the reason for the police presence, but asked that community members avoid the area.

FOX21 News has a crew on the way to the scene and will provide updates as information becomes available.
